The Uncanny Valley Effect
Brief
The overall objective of this project is to create an informative 18x24 inch poster on a topic of our choice, utilizing the fundamentals of poster design, including hierarchy and grouping, to make it appealing.
When creating the poster, I aimed to explore the topic of the Uncanny Valley Effect because it was a trending discussion, and I found it interesting to address. The Uncanny Valley Effect is a psychological phenomenon where a robot or an object with human characteristics triggers an off-putting feeling, suggesting that it is not a real human, signaling to their instincts that something is not right. My primary intention in designing this poster was to establish an unsettling atmosphere. I intended to target this concept towards people who may be interested in this sort of topic. Since this topic contains a lot of information, I tried to keep the body paragraphs and titles engaging.

Poster Design
What I really wanted to capture was the prominent image of the uncanny figure, evoking an uneasy impression when someone sees it. On the information side, I wanted to guide the viewer as they move down the poster while reading, using color coding and different-sized fonts to indicate where the reader should focus. In terms of color, I incorporated a dark color theme to enhance the topic and the main image of this poster.
Design Templates
The designs are simple, but they effectively convey the message, making it noticeable for the viewer to see.
Research Methodology
When researching this topic, I first needed to get a broad understanding of what is the Uncanny Valley Effect, then get into the details of this topic, such as history, the causes, visual representations, and what will happen in the future.
Design Sketches
For the sketches, I tried to make the main image unsettling, emphasizing the eyes going in different directions and making the figure look deathly ill with no soul. While the other graphics have a minimalistic look to them.
Reflection
Learning how to design an infographic poster was fun. I've learned the basics of utilizing the fundamentals of poster layouts. Even though this poster isn't perfect, I would like to change the overall layout, paying attention to the margins and making the body paragraphs more notable and prominent for the viewer. Another thing I would like to change is to shorten the number of words in the paragraphs to make it easier to digest the information.
